Sant Francesc Xavier
With around one thousand habitants, Sant Francesc Xavier is the most populous urban center of Formentera, as well as its capital, in this small town are located the city hall, main post office and other administrative offices on the island.
The town of Sant Francesc Xavier is simple and very characteristic, with whitewashed houses and squares where you can relax sitting at a cafe, in the summer is very busy, and you can find every kind of necessary service (supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, etc.. ) as well as local shops, restaurants and clubs.
In the main square you can find an interesting church with a rather unique history, built in the eighteenth century as a fortification to defend the island against pirates and then transformed into a place of worship.
The church square is the meeting place of Sant Francesc Xavier, and a charming home in the morning market where local artisans display their creations.
